Armed Forces Day

Saturday 26 June 2021 - 10:00am

Local organisations such as the Royal British Legion and The Suffolk Family History Group will be present at the Recreation Ground and St Mary’s Church will open up the tower to visitors. The Royal British Legion will be holding a raffle with prizes being kindly donated by various businesses and individuals in the town.

Haverhill shows its support for the Army, Navy, and Royal Air Force

Haverhill Town Council has announced its plans for Armed Forces Day 2021 which this year falls on Saturday 26 June. Armed Forces Day is a national event designed to show support and thanks to all the armed forces for the work they do.

Prior to this, the annual Armed Forces Day flag-raising ceremony will take place on Market Square on Monday 21 June at 2.00 pm.  Prayers will be said to commemorate the service of men and women in the British Armed Forces. The Mayor of Haverhill, Councillor Liz Smith invites you to attend this socially distanced event.

On Saturday 26 June a convoy of military vehicles, emergency service vehicles and scooters will tour the streets of Haverhill leaving the arts centre car park at 11.00 am (route below) Please come out and give them a wave and a cheer as they drive past.

The convoy will finish at the Market Square and here you can see some of the vehicles in close-up and talk to their owners. Bring a picnic to enjoy in St Mary’s Churchyard as you are entertained by the Apple Blossom Vintage singers performing classic numbers from the 30s, 40s, and 50s (at 11.30 am – 12.00 pm and 1.15 pm-1.45 pm) and the Cambridge Swing Dance Troupe.

At 1.00 pm the flags of the Army, Royal Navy, and Royal Air Force will be raised on Haverhill Market Square.

Refreshments will be available from St Mary’s Church.
