Christmas Light Switch On 2021

Thursday 18 November 5:45pm

Haverhill’s brand new Christmas lights will be switched on at a special event at 6.00pm on Thursday 18 November. Taking place at the Market Square from 5.45pm the switch-on will be officiated by the Mayor of Haverhill, Liz Smith ably assisted by Haver The Dane, the fearsome 12 foot viking who made his first appearance in Haverhill in September. Star Radio will drop in to host the event. Broadcasting the action live will be Josh from Star Breakfast. Prior to the switch-on three flamboyant flame-ologists will entertain spectators with short fire-show of sizzling acrobatic tricks.

Liz Smith said

“The switch-on is an exciting time because it signifies that Christmas is just around the corner. This year the town council took the decision to refresh the scheme with a unified look that encompasses Queen Street, High Street, Jubilee Plaza, Market Square and the Tesco roundabout.”

“There are also new lights in the trees around St Mary’s Church and on our 30 foot tree. We hope they will add a bit of extra twinkle to town.”

On Friday 3 December Haverhill Town Council is working with town centre businesses and Heart of Haverhill to hold a late night shopping event. Many of the town centre businesses will extend their opening hours and local organisations will set up stalls with tombola’s and other fun activities. There will also be a few winter wonders in store as fantastical Christmassy characters travel to the town centre on their way to the North Pole.
