Suffolk Day 2021

For Suffolk Day, 21 June Haverhill Town Council is planning a number of activities to celebrate the beautiful and unique county we live in.

Suffolk Eats: Haverhill Community Kitchen co-ordinator Shaun Hill has been busy consulting his recipe books for food that has a distinctly local flavour. Would you like to join him to learn how to cook Suffolk Fish Pie and Suffolk buns. Shaun is hosting at a free workshop at the Leiston Centre on Monday 21 June at 4.00pm. Places are limited and available to book through www.haverhillartscentre.co.uk

Suffolk Flies: Haverhill Mayor Liz Smith will read the Suffolk Day Proclamation at dawn, (4.38am) as the Suffolk Flag is raised accompanied by some traditional Suffolk folk tunes performed by Peter Isaacs. At sunset (9.23pm) the flag will be taken down accompanied by a poem by Chris James which has been especially commissioned for the occasion.

Are you proud to be Suffolk born and bred? Haverhill Town Council is looking for two people, one to raise the flag and one to lower it. If you don’t mind either a very early morning or going out at sunset tell us why you are proud to be a Suffolker and you could become an integral part of our Suffolk Day celebrations. Email  nick.keeble@haverhill-tc.gov.uk or send a message via the town council’s Facebook page
