Haverhill Green Market – Saturday 17 May
Haverhill Town Council is excited to announce the return of the Green Market, taking place on Saturday 17 May from 9am. Hosted along Haverhill’s High Street, the market will feature an array of interactive activities, as well as local market vendors celebrating nature and sustainability.
What is there for families?
A highlight of the day will be the arrival of street performer: the infamous explorer Captain Jon Voyage. Direct from the Sumatran rainforest, Captain Voyage will be pedalling through the streets on his tropical tricycle and will showcase looted temple fragments and exotic jungle specimens, offering a glimpse into his thrilling expeditions. Accompanying him on this wild journey is none other than Mr. Business, a banana-smuggling orangutan who has given up his jungle ways to join the captain in his adventures. The pair will be interacting with people in the town centre from 11am.
In keeping with Haverhill Town Council’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness of Suffolk’s local wildlife, the Green Market will also host an art workshop on the High Street led by local artist Keith Hopewell. Participants will have the opportunity to create nature-inspired artwork based on wildlife seen in Haverhill, with the finished pieces contributing to public art projects that will enhance the visual appeal of the High Street. From 10.30am.
Nature lovers will be thrilled by the Mini Beasts Stall, which could include giant snails, millipedes, hissing cockroaches, stick insects, tarantulas, a bearded dragon, and even a snake. West Suffolk Rangers will also be on hand, showcasing fascinating items like nests and animal skulls, to help visitors learn more about the natural world. All from 11.00am.
