The Knife Angel statue arrived from its previous location (Luton) on Saturday 31 August and was installed on the Haverhill Market Square the same day, and to mark the occasion an official formal ceremony was held on Wednesday 4 September.
The ceremony on the Market Square opened with a pre-event DJ set from MR DJ Dan from Essex Underground Radio and was attended by Haverhill Mayor David Smith, Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk, Lady Clare Euston, and Tim Passmore, Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner. The event included speeches by Clive Knowles, chairman and founder of British Ironworks, the parents of the murdered teenager Harley Barfield: Darryl Barfield and Bernise Jaggard, and a reflection by the Rev Max Drinkwater of St Mary’s Church. There was also a performance from spoken word poet and hip hop artist Kiran Lotay and a presentation of anti violence certificates.
