Knitted Poppies for Remembrance Day

Who says community spirit is dead?! It’s not in Haverhill, that’s for sure. Thank you to everyone for the super-positive response to this idea. A few people already have their craft baskets out.
A few questions have come up:
**Is there a pattern? Here’s one
Also some people have very kindly shared their patterns on the various posts in the Haverhill related groups Artistic License, Haverhill Group, HAVERHILL AND LOCAL NEWS UK, Haverhill, Suffolk Lets get through COVID-19 together – Haverhill, Suffolk. Haverhill #community Haverhill Volunteer Centre. You can follow these or find your own. We welcome poppies of all shapes and sizes here! Our current plan is to hang the poppies from the trees in the High Street and St Mary’s so it would be helpful if you could attach them to a garland. The amount of poppies in the garland is up to you. There will need to be sufficient poppy free space at the top of garland to make a loop or tie up.
**Is there a deadline?
As Remembrance Day is not very far away we don’t have much time. In order that we have time to hang and string the poppies please could you get them to us by 30 October.
**How do I get them to you?
Please deliver to Haverhill Arts Centre. The arts centre is closed but please push them through. If by any chance you have too many poppies to push through or cannot get into town then please send a message and we can arrange an alternative.
**Is there any other way to help?
Depending on how many poppies we receive we may need volunteers to help hang. Watch this space.
**What will happen afterwards?
We’ll remove the poppies when they start to look past their best. We may save them for next year or donate them elsewhere.
Please note as we haven’t done anything like this before our plans may change. Please bear with us if they do. Our main aim is to get something bright and beautiful up in town before the 8 November.
